Is UCLA med school hard to get into? ›

With an acceptance rate of just 2.2 percent, getting into UCLA Medical School is incredibly competitive. For its 175 spots in each class, UCLA has received upwards of 14,000 applications in recent admissions cycles.

Students interested in the PRIME-LA Program should apply via AMCAS using the separate Program Code under PRIME-LA. Candidates may apply to the designation PRIME-LA on their secondary application.

We use a holistic review process

All medical school applications received are reviewed and select applicants are invited to submit a secondary institutional application.

There are only three factors that UCLA ranks as being “very important” to their admissions process: rigor of secondary school record, GPA, and application essays. Factors rated as “important” are: talent/ability, character/personal qualities, extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, and work experience.

We do not have a minimum GPA requirement. We do not have a set course or group of classes that you need to take. However, we do have a set of competency levels. As long as you meet those competency levels, you can feel confident you meet the medical school requirements and apply.
