How much is an RPZ permit in Seattle? ›

The typical new fee for an RPZ permit is $95 per vehicle. However, some Zones are subsidized by nearby major institutions because their employees and/or students impact parking. For specific fees by Zone and area, please see the chart below.

You will need to find your RPZ License (it will have a status of “about to expire”), and on the right side of the screen you should see an option to “Renew.” If you do not already have a Seattle Services Portal account, you will need to create one before you try to renew online.

For homes in the Seattle, Washington area, we've already established that the correct insulation R-value climate zone is 4. If you look at the chart above, you can see that the attic should achieve an R-value between R-38 and R-60, depending on the current insulation levels.

What Permits Do You Need? You need a construction addition / alteration permit to build an addition or remodel. If the size of the addition or remodel is small, you may qualify for a subject-to-field inspection permit. Can I do my own plumbing work? In the State of Washington, Chapter 18.106 RCW contains the rules and regulations governing plumber certification. An owner may perform their own plumbing work. They may also enlist the help of a friend, neighbor, relative, or other acquaintance, as long as they are not compensated.

Construction, demolition, mechanical, and grading permits typically expire 18 months after the issue date. However, you can renew these permits up to 30 days before the expiration date. You can reestablish your permit if it has been expired for less than one year.

Depending on where you live and the part of your home you're insulating (walls, crawlspace, attic, etc.), you'll need a different R-Value. Typical recommendations for exterior walls are R-13 to R-23, while R-30, R-38 and R-49 are common for ceilings and attic spaces.
