Im sure someone here knows about corn. I bought some seeds in bulk from the local feed store. They all have the pink fungicide on them and are said to be g-90 sweet corn. After looking at all of the seeds, some of then are smooth on the outside and some are shriveled looking. As i recall, every g-90 i planted in the past had a shriveled appearance. Is this indicative that I got a batch of mixed seeds or the wrong kind or is it likely all the same...i mean, they dont all look the same.

I'm not positive as I've never really had to work in seed corn, but I would think they're just fine and the same as the others, just had a bit more water in them.

I'm sure you're fine. If you've ever seen G90 corn before, the kernels are all different... some are white, some are yellow. They may just dry out to different consistencies.

And G90 corn is awesome beyond words.

G-90 a very good sweet corn and yes it does vary in appearence due to the kernels drying differently.

OK, thats good to know.

I have another question....around where i live they have corn out the ears, if you will. But its not corn for eating, its corn for grain. How can you get corn to be 'hard' like grain types? G-90 won't do this, it all seems to shrivel on the ear...right?

Most sweet corn will shrivel when it dries. I think you probably have some off seeds in there.

Do you want Field Corn? I don't get your question. Sweet corn shrivels because it fills with sugar. Field corn does not shrivel because it fills with starch.

BTW, you can eat field corn, it is pretty good, just catch it young enough.

No, i want sweet corn. I just didnt notice anything when i bought it, in bulk. I planted it, and the germination rate was pretty low and inconsistent. Its been two weeks and its been coming up this whole time. In my experience, it all comes up at the same time within a three day period. Then I looked at the seeds, MOST look like field corn...only a handfull look like sweet corn. Also, the young plants just look 'different' than i remember. Kind of sucks. So, I have 4 20 foot rows to wait to germinate so i can redo it all i guess.

You are not going to be able to tell sweet corn from field corn until it gets 4-5 feet high, and maybe not then.
